Hi everyone! I'm a future JET, on my way to Hyogo ken, and I've been doing a bit of reading on what life in Japan is supposed to be like for foreigners. The JET handbook implies that women will probably have trouble finding Japanese men to date because the men will be intimidated, while foreign men will be besieged with offers from Japanese women who are interested in someone exotic or sensitive or can give them free English lessons. I'm curious about how these stereotypes play out in same-sex relationships. I know that real people and real relationships rarely ever conform to stereotypes, but I've heard these cliches mentioned so much in the context of heterosexual relationships that I can't help but wonder whether similar stereotypes exist for non-heterosexual pairings.
